Layers

Layers are named, color-coded groups that organize everything inside a Document. Every Room, Rectangle, Object, and Path belongs to a Layer, which controls where it sits in the sidebar and its stacking order in the workspace.

Think of Layers as a way to group content by role rather than by location — for example, a "Background" Layer for far scenery, a "Level" Layer for the main playable geometry, and a "FX" Layer for decorative Rectangles and Objects on top. Rooms are still the right tool for grouping content that belongs to the same physical area; Layers group content by purpose across the whole Document.

Working with Layers

Every Document starts with a default Layer, and you can add more from the left sidebar.

  1. Click Add Layer in the left sidebar
  2. Rename the Layer and pick a color to help you tell it apart at a glance
  3. Drag Layers to reorder them — Layers higher in the list render on top
  4. Assign a Room, Rectangle, Object, or Path to a Layer from its inspector

Layer options

  • Rename a Layer to describe what it's for
  • Recolor a Layer so its items are easy to spot in the sidebar
  • Reorder Layers to change stacking order
  • Show or hide a Layer to temporarily hide its content while you work
  • Collapse a Layer in the sidebar to tidy up a busy Document

Hiding a Layer is a workspace convenience for editing — it does not remove that content from Code Export.
